EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid), the abbreviation of tetracarboxylic acid ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, is an important artificial organic polyacid complexing agent. Its most important chemical property is able to form highly stable water-soluble complexes with various metal cations, therefore has a strong complexity to prevent the precipitation and the catalytic effect of metal ions, and to increase the availability of metal ions in the solution, or remove metal ions from the system. EDTA widely used in commercial and household detergents, textile and paper bleaching processes, metal plating processes, food industry, medicine and agriculture. And at the same time, it’s the highest concentration of synthetic organic matter in many surface water and groundwater because it is difficult to be removed by conventional water and waste water treatment process.
